Artist Details
Painter Philip Guston was born in 1913 in Montreal, Canada. He has been the subject of various solo exhibitions, including at the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT (2000); San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (2003); Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Fort Worth, TX (2004); and Museo Carlo Bilotti, Rome, Italy (2012). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Abstract Painting and Sculpture in America, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1952); The American Century, Art & Culture 1900-2000, Part II 1950-2000, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (1999); Painting the Century, 101 Portrait Masterpieces 1900-2000, National Portrait Gallery, London, UK (2000-01); BIG BANG, Centre Pompidou, Musée National d´Art Moderne, Paris, France (2005); and Modern Masters from the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Dayton Art Institute, Dayton, OH (2012). Guston died in 1980 in Woodstock, NY.
