Peter Campus

Biography

Peter Campus was born in 1937 in New York, NY. He received a BS in 1960 from The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, and he attended The City College Film Institute in New York, NY. Campus has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1976-77); Städtisches Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach, Germany (1990); The Street Museum, Seoul, South Korea (2017); and Sarasota Art Museum, Sarasota, FL (2022). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including Revision, Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, TX (1972); Content: A Contemporary Focus 1974–1984, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC (1984); Investigations of the Phenomenal World, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA (1997); SELF: Portraits of Artists in their Absence, National Academy Museum, New York, NY (2015); and The Double: Identity and Difference in Art Since 1900, National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC (2022). Campus currently lives and works in East Patchogue, NY.
