Biography

Sculptor Muriel Castanis was born in 1926 in New York, NY. She has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA (1985); Boulder Center for the Visual Arts, Boulder, CO (1989-90); and New York University, New York, NY (2000). Castanis has also participated in various group exhibitions, including Women in the Collection, Andrew Dickson White Museum, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY (1972); Standing Ground: Sculpture by American Women Artists, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (1987); Fashion is a Verb: Expanding The Definition, Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, NY (1995); and Everything’s O.K. at O.K. Harris, Brevard Museum of Art and Science, Melbourne, FL (2003). Castanis died in 2006 in NY, NY.
