Moira Dryer was born in 1957 in Toronto, Canada. She received a BFA in 1980 from the School of Visual Arts in New York, NY. Dryer has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (1989); University of Chicago, Chicago, IL (1997); Greater Reston Arts Center, Reston, VA; and The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC (both 2020). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including New York, New Work,The New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, NY (1984); As Painting: Division and Displacement, Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH (2001); I, YOU, WE,Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (2013); and Crossroads: Carnegie Museum of Art’s Collection, 1945 to Now, Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA (2018). Dryer died in 1993 in New York, NY.
