Multidisciplinary artist Michele Oka Doner was born in 1945 in Miami Beach, FL. She received a BS in 1966 and an MFA in 1968, both from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. Donna has been the subject of various solo exhibitions, including at Detroit Institute of Art, Detroit, MI (1978); Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Grand Rapids, MI (2010); Perez Art Museum, Miami, FL (2017); and Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota, FL (2023). She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Objects: USA, National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC (1968); Disarming Images, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (1984); Bare Witness: Clothing and Nudity, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY (1996); Die Tashe, Bayerische National Museum, Munich, Germany (2013); and Designed by Women, Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal, Canada (2023).
