Artist Details
Conceptual artist Mel Chin was born in 1951 in Houston, TX. He received a BA in 1975 from Peabody College in Nashville, TN. Chin has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC (1989); Station Museum, Houston, TX (2006); Museum Het Domein, Sittard, The Netherlands (2010); and Asheville Art Museum, Asheville, NC (2012). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Fire, Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, TX (1979); Glass: Material in the Service of Meaning, Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA (1991); One Planet Under A Groove, Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, NY (2002); and Carbon 14: Climate is Culture Exhibition, Royal Ontario Museum, Institute for Contemporary Culture, Toronto, Canada (2014).
