Artist Details
Photographer and educator Masumi Hayashi was born in 1945 in Arizona. She received a BFA in 1975 and MFA in 1977, both from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. She has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art, Cleveland, OH (1988); Whipple Art Center, Las Vegas, NV (1998); Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center, Portland, OR (2001); Japanese-American National Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2003); and the Akron Art Museum, Akron, OH (2007). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Images of the Universe: The Artists' Vision, The Brunnier Gallery and Museum, Iowa State University, Ames, IA (1986); War Works: Women, Photography, and the Art of War, Victoria Albert Art Museum, London, UK (1995); Only Skin Deep, International Center of Photography, New York, NY (2003); and NEO, Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH (2005). Hayashi died in 2006 in Cleveland, OH.
