Artist Details

Biography

Artist, designer, and educator Corita Kent, born Frances Elizabeth Kent and also known as Sister Mary Corita Kent, was born in 1918 and Fort Dodge, IA. Recent solo exhibitions of her work have been held at TAXISPALAIS Kunsthalle Tirol, Vienna, Austria (2020); Western Carolina University Fine Art Museum, Cullowhee, NC (2022); and Nivaagaards Malerisamling, Nivå, Denmark (2022-23). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, with recent ones including Between the Lines: Typography in LACMA's Collection, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (2019); Mapping the Collection, Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany (2020); Art and Healing: Works by Jim Dine and Corita Kent, Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Washington State University, Pulling, WA (2021); and What are words worth? McEvoy Foundation for the Arts, San Francisco, CA (2023). Kent died in 1986 in Boston, MA.
