Mary Carothers received her BFA from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY in 1991 and her MFA from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI in 1996. She has been the subject of various solo exhibitions, including at Michigan Technological University, Houghton, MI (2008); Frazier International History Museum, Louisville, KY (2010); and Great Meadows Estate, Crestwood, KY (2016). Carothers has also participated several group exhibitions, including Reference, Work House Art Center, Lorton, VA (2015); Photography Since the Millennium, Carnegie Center for Art and History, New Albany, IN (2015-16); After the Moment Reflections on Robert Mapplethorpe, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2015-16); and I Witness, Bradley University, Peoria, IL (2016). Carothers currently lives and works in Louisville, KY, where she is a professor at Hite Art Institute.
