Martin Barré was born in 1924 in Nantes, France. He studied at École des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, France. Barré has been the subject of various solo exhibitions, including at Kunstnernes Kunsthandel, Copenhagen, Denmark (1961); Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris, France (1979); Kunsthandel Wolfgang Werner, Berlin, Germany (2017); and Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Geneva, Switzerland (2020). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including 11e Salon des Réalitésnouvelles, Nouvelles Réalités, Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris, Paris, France (1956); Museum Pieces of the Post-War Era, Solomon R. Guggenheim, New York, NY (1972); Das offene Bild - Aspekte der Moderne in Europa nach 1945, Westfälisches Landesmuseum, Münster, Germany (1993); Oranges et sardines, conversations on abstract painting, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2008); and Collectie Collection Jeanne & Charles Vandenhove, Museum Dhont-Dhaenens, Deurle, Belgium (2013). Barré died in 1993 in Paris, France.
