Artist Details

Biography

Painter Marcia Hafif was born in 1929 in Pomona, CA. She received a BFA in 1951 from Pomona College and her MFA in 1971 from University of California, Irvine. Hafif has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla, CA (1975); Kunsthalle, Winterthur, Switzerland (1991); Maison de la Culture de Bourges, Bourges, France (2007); and Tate Modern Film, London, UK (2019). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Bilder Ohne Bilder, Rheinisches Landesmuseum, Bonn, Germany (1977); Julian Pretto Collection, Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, CT (1996); Pensare Pittura, Museo d'arte Contemporanea di Villa Croce, Genova, Italy (2009); and Women in Abstraction, Guggenheim Bilbao, Bilbao, Spain (2021). Hafif died in 2018 in Laguna Beach, CA.
