Biography

Lynn Herschman Leeson was born in 1941 in Cleveland, OH. She received a BS in 1963 from Case Western Reserve University, an MA in 1972 from San Francisco State University, and a DFA in 2023 from Pratt Institute. She has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara, CA (1966); Musée d'art moderne, Nice, France (1980); Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1991); Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (1994); San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (2008); Julia Stoschek Foundation, Düsseldorf, Germany (2024). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including 50th May Show: Annual Exhibition of Artists and Craftsmen of the Western Reserve, Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH (1968); Identity: Representations of the Self, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (1988); New Interactive Art, Center for Contemporary Art, Warsaw, Poland (1995); Parallels and Intersections Art/Women/California, 1950- 2000, San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, CA (2002); A Bigger Splash: Painting After Performance, Tate Modern, London, UK (2012); and For Dear Life: Art, Medicine, and Disability, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, San Diego, CA (2024). Herschmann Leeson currently lives and works in San Francisco, CA.
