Artist Details

Biography

Lynda Benglis was born in 1941 in Lake Charles, LA. She received a BFA in 1964 from Newcomb College in New Orleans, LA. Benglis has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at The Kitchen, New York, NY (1975); San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, CA (1991); Bergen Assembly, KODE Art Museum of Bergen, Bergen, Norway (2016); and Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, TX (2022). She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including 1969 Annual Exhibition: Contemporary American Painting, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (1969); Options 73/30, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (1973); Matter, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (2001); and Slip Zone: A New Look at Postwar Abstraction in the Americas and East Asia, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX (2022). Benglis currently lives and works between New York, NY, Santa Fe, NM and Ahmedabad, India.
