Lucy Gunning

Biography

Sculptor and video/installation artist Lucy Gunning was born in 1964 in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. She received a BA in 1987 from Falmouth School of Art and an MA in 1994 from Goldsmiths College. Gunning has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston, UK (1996); Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff, UK (1998); Tate Britain, London, UK (2001); The Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa, OK (2007); and PALFREY, London, UK (2021). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Behind Closed Doors: Video in Interior Spaces, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL (1996); City Racing - A Partial History, Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, UK (2001); SCOPE, Visual Art Centre, Tsinghua University, Beijing China (2012); Womenhouse, La Monnaie de Paris, Paris, France (2018); and Outfaced: Confronting the Portrait, Photography and Video, 1972-2011, Centre Pompidou Málaga, Málaga, Spain (2021). Gunning currently lives and works in London, UK.
