Biography

Lucian Freud was born in 1922 in Berlin, Germany. From 1939-42 he attended Central School of Arts and Crafts in London, UK. Freud has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Arts Council of Great Britain, Hayward Gallery, London, UK (1974); Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, UK (1997); Tate Modern, London, UK (2004); and Centre Pompidou, Paris, France (2010). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Thinking Print: From Books to Billboards, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1996); La Mirada Fuerte: Pintura Figurativa de Londres, Museo de Arte Moderno, Mexico City, Mexico (2000); and Painting Now! Back to Figuration, Kunsthal Rotterdam, Rotterdam, The Netherlands (2007). Freud died in 2011 in London, UK.
