Lovis Corinth was born in 1858 in Gvardeysk, Russia. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany. Corinth has been the subject of various solo exhibitions, including at Tate Britain, London, UK (1959); National Academy of Design, New York, NY (1992); Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg, Germany (2004-05); and Musée d'Orsay, Paris, France (2008). Corinth died in 1925 in Zandwoort, The Netherlands.
