Artist Details
Printmaker and painter Louis Bunce was born in 1907 in Lander, WY. He graduated from the Museum Art School in Portland, OR in 1926 and from the Art Students league in New York, NY in 1931. Bunce has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA (1936); Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1950-51); Portland Center for the Visual Arts, Portland, OR (1978); and The Art Gym, Marylhurst University, Marylhurst, OR (2007). He has also participated in various group exhibitions, including Abstract and Surrealist Art in America, Chicago Art Institute, Chicago, IL (1947); West Coast Abstract Painting, San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, CA (1965); Northwest Artists 1890-1990, Oregon Historical Society, Portland, OR (1990); and In Passionate Pursuit: The Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Collection and Legacy, Portland Art Museum, Portland, OR (2014-15). Bunce died in 1983 in Portland, OR.
