Los Carpinteros is an artistic collective founded in 1991 in Havana, Cuba and comprised of Marco Antonio Castillo Valdes, Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez, and Alexandre Arrechea Jesus Zambrano. Valdes was born in 1971 in Camaguey, Cuba. He graduated in 1994 from The Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana, Cuba. Sánchez was born in 1969 in Caibarién, Las Villas, Cuba. Sánchez graduated in 1994 from the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana, Cuba. Zambrano was born in 1970 in Trinidad, Las Villas, Cuba. He graduated in 1994 from the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana, Cuba. Los Carpinteros has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at The New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, NY (1998); Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba (2003); Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2005); Museum Folkwang, Essen, Germany (2014); and The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC (2019). They have also participated in many group exhibitions, including El Objeto Esculturado, Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales, Havana, Cuba (1990); Drawing Now: Eight Propositions, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (2002); Buildering: Misbehaving the City, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2014); and The infinite possibility: Thinking about the nation, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba (2020). They currently live and work between Havana, Cuba and Madrid, Spain.
