Liz Deschenes was born in 1966 in Boston, MA. She received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 1988. She has been the subject of various solo and two-person exhibitions, including at the Gesellschaft fur Aktuelle Kunst, Bremen, Germany (2004); Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL (2012); Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN (2014); and MASS Museum of Contemporary Art, North Adams, MA (2015). She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Modern Photographs from the Collection, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY (2002); How Soon Is Now, Garage Contemporary Arts Center, Moscow, Russia (2011); Pandora's Box, Musée d'Art Moderne, Paris, France (2016); and Nineteenth-Century Photography Now, Getty Center, Los Angeles, CA (2024). Deschenes currently lives and works in New York, NY.
