Painter Lawrence Calcagno was born in 1913 in San Francisco, CA. He attended the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, CA from 1947-50. Calcagno has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at Instituto de Arte Contemporaneo, Lima, Peru (1957); Honolulu Museum of Art, Honolulu, Hawaii (1968-69); Museum of Fine Arts, Roanoke, VA (1984); and Museum of Arts, Albuquerque, NM (2000). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including 13th Annual Watercolor Exhibition of the San Francisco Art Association, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (1949); 60 American Painters: 1960, The Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN (1960); American Abstract Expressionists and Imagists, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (1961); and American Landscape: A Changing Frontier, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC (1966). Calcagno died in 1993 in State College, PA.
