Artist Details

Biography

Jonathan Borofsky was born in 1942 in Boston, MA. He received his BFA in 1964 from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and his MFA in 1966 from Yale University in New Haven, CT. Borofsky has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1978); Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan (1987); Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA (2007); and Meijer Botanical Gardens and Sculpture Park, Grand Rapids, MI (2009). He has also participated in various group exhibitions, including Autogeography, Whitney Museum of American Art Downtown Branch, New York, NY (1975); Gemini G.E.L.: Art and Collaboration, National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC (1984); An Active Life, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2000); and Masterminds, Abecita Art Museum, Borås, Sweden (2019). Borofsky currently lives and works in Ogunquit, ME.
