John Armleder was born in 1948 in Geneva, Switzerland. He graduated in 1967 from Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, Switzerland. He has been the subject of many solo and two-person exhibitions, including Nylistasafnik, The Living Arts Museum, Reykjavik, Iceland (1982); Works on Paper 1966-1992, Centraal Museum, Utrecht, Netherlands (1992); Projects 72: John Armleder/Piotr Uklanski, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (2000); Quicksand, Dairy Art Centre, London, UK (2013); and Again, Just Again, Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai, China (2021). Armleder has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Concept Art, Centro de Arte y Comunicación, Buenos Aires, Argentina (1975); More Songs about Buildings and Food, Centre d’Art Contemporain de Martigny, Martigny, Switzerland (1992); Collaborations with Parkett 1984 to Now, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (2001); On the Subject of the Ready-Made or Using a Rembrandt as an Ironing Board, Daimler Contemporary, Berlin, Germany (2016); and Light Falls, Blanc Art Group, Beijing, China (2021). Armleder currently lives and works in Geneva, Switzerland.
