Artist Details
Jo Ann Callis was born in 1940 in Cincinnati, OH. She received both her BFA in 1974 and MFA in 1977 from University of California in Los Angeles, CA. She has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (1983); Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica, CA (1995); and J.Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2009). Callis has also participated in various group exhibitions, including Exposing: Photographic Definitions, Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA (1976); The Photography of Invention: American Pictures of the '80s, National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC (1989); American Made - The New Still Life, Isetan Museum of Art, Tokyo, Japan (1993); and Rebels & Revelers: Experimental Decades 1970s-1980s, Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego, CA (2006). Callis currently lives and works in California.
