Installation and conceptual artist Jenny Holzer was born in 1950 in Gallipolis, OH. She received her BFA in 1972 from Ohio University and her MFA in 1977 from Rhode Island School of Design. Holzer has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, UK (1983); Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (1989); Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey, Monterrey, Mexico (2001); Museo Correr, Venice, Italy (2015); Tate Modern, London, UK (2018); and K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf, Germany (2023). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Ecrans Politiques, Musée dArt Contemporain, Montréal, Canada (1985); Allegories of Modernism: Contemporary Drawing, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1992); Love/Hate: From Magritte to Cattelan: Masterpieces from the Collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL (2004); Take It or Leave It: Institution, Image, Ideology, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2014); and What's Going On, Rubell Museum DC, Washington, DC (2022). Holzer currently lives and works in New York, NY.
