Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in 1960 in Brooklyn, NY.
He has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, with recent ones including Basquiat's "Defacement": The Untold Story, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (2019); Jean Michel Basquiat: Royalty, Heroism, and the Streets, Lotte Museum of Art, Seoul, South Korea (2020-21); and Jean-Michel Basquiat: Heroes & Monsters, Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando, FL (2022). He has also been featured in several group exhibitions, with recent ones including Modern Art Revisited: from the collection of Fukuoka Art, Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, Hiroshima, Japan (2018); Masterworks on Loan, Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Eugene, OR (2018); For the Record: Artists on Vinyl, Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, MI (2020); and To Begin Again: Artists and Childhood, Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, Boston, MA (2023). Basquiat died in 1988 in New York, NY.
