Painter Janet Cooling was born in 1951. She received her BFA in 1973 from the Pratt Institute in New York, NY and her MFA in 1975 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, IL. Cooling has been the subject of various solo and two-person exhibitions, including at University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ (1984); Maturango Museum, Ridgecrest, CA (1991); and San Diego Mesa, College Art Gallery, San Diego, CA (2000). She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Face It: 10 Contemporary Artists, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (1982-84); Temporarily Possessed, The New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, NY (1995); and Recent Acquisitions, Leslie Lohman Museum, New York, NY (2013). Cooling died in 2022.
