Janet Cardiff was born in 1957 in Brussels, Canada. Since 1995, she has collaborated with George Bures Miller. They have been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre, Guelph, Canada (1988); Kunstraum München, Munich, Germany (2000); National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, Canada (2005); Nykytaiteen Museo Kiasma, Helsinki, Finland (2012); Lehmbruck Museum, Duisberg, Germany; Museum Tinguely, Basel, Switzerland (both 2022-23). They have also participated in many group exhibitions, including NowHere Louisiana, Louisiana Museum for Moderne Kunst, Humlebæk, Denmark (1996); The Invisible Show, Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv, Israel (2007); Travelers: Stepping into the Unknown, National Museum of Art, Osaka, Japan (2018); and Surrounds: 11 Installations, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (2019-20). Cardiff currently lives and works in Grindrod, British Columbia.
