Artist Details
James Casebere was born in 1953 in Lansing, MI. He received a BFA in 1976 from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Minneapolis, MN and an MFA in 1979 from California Institute of the Arts, Santa Clarita, CA. He has been the subject of various solo exhibitions, including at Neuberger Museum, State University of New York at Purchase, Purchase, NY (1989); The Ansel Adams Center for Photography, San Francisco, CA (1996); BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels, Belgium (2016); and Archive Project Space, Pittsfield, MA (2020-21). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Tableaux: Nine Contemporary Sculptures, Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, OH (1982); Pleasures and Terrors of Domestic Comfort, The Museum of Modern Art, New York (1991); Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video Performance, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (2010); and What is the Proper Way to Display a Flag?, Weserburg Museum für Moderne Kunst, Bremen, Germany (2023). Casebere currently lives and works in New York, NY.
