James Biederman was born in 1947 in New York, NY. He received a BA in 1969 from State University of New York in New Paltz, NY and an MFA in Sculpture in 1973 from Yale University in New Haven, CT. Biederman has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including James Biederman: Sculpture, Artist Space, New York, NY (1974); The Virginia Paintings, Bradford Gallery at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA (1999); and at Mattatuck Museum of Art, Waterbury, CT (2016). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Recent Acquisitions: Drawings, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1981); Peripheral Vision, Collaborative Concepts, Beacon, NY (2003); and Embracing Space and Color: Art On and Off the Wall, Vero Beach Museum of Art, Vero Beach, FL (2015). Biederman currently lives and works in Wilmington, NC.
