Biography

Inka Essenhigh was born in 1969 in Bellefonte, PA. She received her BFA in 1992 from Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, OH and her MFA in 1994 from The School of Visual Arts in New York, NY. Essenhigh has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami, FL (2003); Columbus College of Art and Design, Joseph V. Canzani Center, Columbus, OH (2014); The Drawing Center, New York, NY (2018); and Susquehanna Art Museum, Harrisburg, PA (2019). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Young Ukrainian American Painters Group Show, Ukrainian Museum, New York, NY (1993); Supernova: Art of the 1990’s from the Logan Collection, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (2003); Inka Essenhigh & Richard Van Buren: Un/Natural Splendor, Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Rockport, ME (2012); and Rounding the Circle: The Mary and Alfred Shands Collection, Speed Art Museum, Louisville, KY (2023). Essenhigh currently lives and works in New York, NY.
