Photographer Imogen Cunningham was born in 1883 in Portland, OR. She graduated in 1907 with a degree in chemistry from University of Washington in Seattle, WA. Cunningham has been the subject of various solo exhibitions, including at Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, Brooklyn, NY (1914); The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL (1964); Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY (1973); and Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA (2009-10). She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Film and Foto Exhibition, Stuttgart, Germany and Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley, CA (1929); Group f.64 Exhibition, M.H. de Young Memorial Museum, San Francisco, CA (1932); and Die Poesie der Form, Fotografie Forum International, Frankfurt, Germany (1993). Cunningham died in 1976 in San Francisco, CA.
