Biography

Multi-media artist Ida Applebroog was born in 1929 in The Bronx, NY. She graduated from New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in 1950 in New York, NY and School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1968 in Chicago, IL. Applebroog has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including Ida Horowitz, Newport Harbor Art Museum, Newport Beach, CA (1973); Investigations 1986, Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, PA (1986); Everything Is Fine, Brooklyn Museum, New York, NY (1993); Ida Applebroog, Musee d’Art Contemporain du Val-de-Marne, Vitry-sur-Seine, France (2014); and Ida Applebroog Marginalias, Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain (2021). Applebroog has also participated in many group exhibitions, including South 8, Fine Arts Museum, San Diego, CA (1970); The Viewer as Voyeur, Whitney Museum of Art, New York, NY (1987); The F Word, The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, PA (2006); and KAFKA: 1924, Museum Villa Stuck, Munich, Germany (2023). She currently lives and works in New York City, NY.
