Artist Details
Hyman Bloom was born in 1913 in Bausch District, Latvia. He has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions, including Little Show of Work in Progress: Paintings by Hyman Bloom, Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit, MI (1955); Hyman Bloom: Paintings and Drawings, Museum of Art, University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH (1992); and Hyman Bloom: Matters of Life and Death, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA (2020). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including An Experiment in Art Teaching, Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA (1933); Younger American Painters, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (1954); Jewish Experience in America, The Jewish Museum, New York, NY (1975); and Paint Made Flesh, Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville, TN (2009). Bloom died in 2009 in Nashua, NH.
