Hera Büyüktaşcıyan was born in 1984 in Istanbul, Turkey. She graduated from Marmara University in 2006 and from Internationale Sommerakademie für Bildende Kunst Salzburg in 2008. She has been the subject of various solo and two-person exhibitions, including at the State of Concept, Athens, Greece (2015); Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen Gallery, Berlin, Germany (2019); Tate St. Ives, Cornwall, UK; and Centre International d’Art et du Paysage, Vassivière Island, France (both 2023). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Lives and Works in Istanbul, European Capital Culture, Istanbul, Turkey (2009); The Rituals of the Habituals, Open Arts Foundation, Plovdiv, Bulgaria (2012); Es war einmal ein Land (Once There was a Country), Heidelberger Kunstverein, Germany (2015); The Futureless Memory, Kunsthuas Hamburg, Germany (2020); Reflections: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa, The British Museum, London, UK (2021); and A Permanent Nostalgia for Departure: A rehearsal on legacy with Zaha Hadid, Contemporary Arts Center Cincinnati, OH (2023-24). Büyüktaşcıyan currently lives and works in Instanbul, Turkey.
