Biography

Sculptor and jewelry artist Harriete Estel Berman was born in 1952 in Harrisburg, PA. She received a BFA in Metalsmithing in 1974 from Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY and an MFA in 1980 in Metalsmithing from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Berman has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at California Crafts Museum, Palo Alto, CA (1982); Barbican Center, London, UK (1998); Ornamental Metal Museum, Memphis, TN (2004); and Loveland Museum, Loveland, CO (2010). She has also participated in several group exhibitions, including Progressions 2, California Crafts Museum, San Francisco, CA (1990); Making Change: 100 Artists Interpret The Tzedakah Box, The Jewish Museum, San Francisco, CA (1999-2000); Second Nature: Recycled Materials Inspired by Animals, Plants and Insects, Ohio Craft Museum, Columbus, OH (2009); and Jewelry and Harmony: Highlights from the Episodes, Craft in America Center, Los Angeles, CA (2020-21). Berman currently lives and works in San Mateo, CA.
