Biography

Hans Haacke was born in 1936 in Cologne, Germany. He studied at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. He has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at Museum Haus Lange, Krefeld, Germany (1972); Centre Georges Pompidou, Musée nationale d’art modern, Paris, France (1989); Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain (2012); The New Museum, New York, NY (2019); and Nationalgalerie, Berlin, Germany (2021). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Sculptors as Printmakers, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1964); Information, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1970); '60'80: Attitudes/Concepts/Images, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam,The Netherlands (1982); Painting the Century, National Portrait Gallery, London, UK (2000); E.A.T. – Experiments in Art and Technology, Museum der Moderne, Salzburg, Austria (2015); and Topologies of the Real: Techne Shenzhen 2023, Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning, Shenzhen, China (2023). Haacke currently lives and works in New York, NY.
