Hanne Darboven was born in 1941 in Munich, Germany. She graduated in 1965 from the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg, Germany. She has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at Städtisches Museum, Mönchengladbach, Germany (1969); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (1974); Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA (1989-90); and Bundeskunsthalle, Bonn, Germany (2015). She has also participated in several group exhibitions, including When Attitudes Become Form, Kunsthalle Bern, Bern, Switzerland (1969); Eight Contemporary Artists, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1975); L’art conceptuel: une perspective, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris, France (1989-90); and In the Holocene, MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge, MA (2013). Darboven died in 2009 in Hamburg, Germany.
