Artist Details
Gilles Barbier was born in 1965 in Vanuatu. Barbier has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including Copywork, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara, CA (1999); Gilles Barbier, Musée d'Art Contemporain de Nîmes, Nîmes, France (2006); Echo System, National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, South Korea (2016); and Le festin du roi René et de la reine Jeanne, Château de Tarascon - Centre dʼart René dʼAnjou, Tarascon, France (2022). Barbier has also participated in various group exhibitions, including On the Edge, New Art from Private Collections in France, Museum of Art, Tel Aviv, Israel (1998); The American Effect, The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (2003); L'art fait ventre, Musée du Montparnasse, Paris, France (2014); and Les Choses, Une histoire de la nature morte, Musée du Louvre, Paris, France (2022). Barbier currently lives and works in Marseilles, France.
