Georg Baselitz was born in 1938 in Saxony, Germany. He graduated in 1963 from the Academy of Art in East and West Berlin in Berlin, Germany. He has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including Georg Baselitz, Kunstverein, Hamburg, Germany (1972); Introduktion Baselitz, Statens Museum for Kunst, København, Denmark (1991); Baselitz Re-Mixed, Helsinki Art Museum Tennis Palace, Helsinki, Finland (2010); and Georg Baselitz: Six Decades of Drawings, The Morgan Library & Museum, New York, NY (2022). Baselitz has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including La Grande Parade, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Netherlands (1984); Examining Pictures—Exhibition of 56 artists links generations of painters, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Chicago, IL (1999); The Tom Bendhem Collection, The London Jewish Museum of Art, London, UK (2004); and Kiefer & Baselitz, Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg, Aalborg, Denmark (2024). Baselitz currently lives and works between Ammersee, Germany and Imperial, Italy.
