Fred Berman was born in 1926 in Milwaukee, WI. He received a BA from Milwaukee State Teachers College and an MFA from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Berman has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including Paintings and Prints by Fred Berman, Milwaukee Art Center, Milwaukee, WI (1964); Photographs by Fred Berman, Camden Art Centre, London, UK (1983); and Fred Berman Photographs/Walls and Windows, Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum, Milwaukee, WI (2001). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including 54th Annual Exhibition by Artists of Chicago and Vicinity, Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL (1950); Annual Exhibition of Contemporary American Painting, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (1959-60); These Images Exist: Photography by Fred Berman and Diana Peters, Palo Alto Art Center, Palo Alto, CA (1976); and Wisconsin Modernists: Rebels from Regionalism, Cedarburg Art Museum, Cedarburg, WI (2018). Berman died in 2011 in Milwaukee, WI.
