Biography

Multidisciplinary artist Franz Erhard Walther was born in 1939 in Fulda, Germany. He attended the Werkkunstschule Offenbach and the Städelschule, both located in Main, Germany, and later at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in Düseeldorf, Germany. He has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Museum Haus Lange, Krefeld, Germany (1969); Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, The Netherlands (1984); Musée d’art moderne et contemporain, Geneva, Switzerland (1997); Dia Beacon, New York, NY (2010); and Kunstmuseum Bonn, Bonn, Germany (2024). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Spaces, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1970); Prospect / Retrospect, Kunstmuseum, Luzern, Switzerland (1994); Beyond Geometry, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (2004); Artvida, Museu de Arte Moderna, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2014); and Assembly Required, Pulitzer Arts Foundation, St. Louis, MO (2022). Walther currently lives and works in Fulda, Germany.
