Ernst Barlach was born in 1870 in Wedel, Germany. From 1891 to 1895, he studied at the Royal Art School in Dresden, Germany. His work can be found in the permanent collections of many institutions, including at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA; The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles, CA; and The Tate, London, UK. Barlach died in Rostock, Germany.
