Multidisciplinary artist Eileen Cowin was born in 1947 in Brooklyn, NY. She received a BS in 1968 from State University of New York at New Paltz, NY and an MFA in Photography in 1970 from IIT Institute of Design in Chicago, IL. Cowin has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at Dayton Art Institute, Dayton, OH (1972); Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (1985); Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2000); and Museum of Art and History, Lancaster, CA (2021). She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Group Exhibit, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1973); Extending the Perimeters of 20th Century Photography, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (1985); American Perspective: Photographs from the Polaroid Collection, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Tokyo, Japan (2000); and In Focus: Writing for the Camera, J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2022). Cowin currently lives and works in Santa Monica, CA.
