Multidisciplinary artist Doug Aitken was born in 1968 in Redondo Beach, CA. He received a BFA from Art Center College of Design in 1991 in Pasadena, CA. Aitken has been the subject of numerous group exhibitions, including Diamond Sea, Jiri Svestka Gallery, Prague, Czech Republic (1998); into the sun, Victoria Miro Gallery, London, UK (1999); Rise, Le Magasin, Centre National dʼArt Contemporain de Grenoble, Grenoble, France (2002); SONG 1, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC (2012); and migration (empire), Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minneapolis, MN (2017). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including The Art Mall: A Social Space, The New Museum, New York, NY (1992); Let’s Entertain, Musée National d’Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, France (2000); Private Universes: Media Work, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX (2009); and Artists in Their Time, Istanbul Modern, Istanbul, Turkey (2016).
