Artist Details
Deborah Butterfield was born in 1949 in San Diego, CA. She received a BA in 1972 and an MFA in 1973, both from University of California in Davis, CA. Butterfield has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, Israel (1981); San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego, CA (1996); Yellowstone Art Museum, Billings, MT (2010); and The Mennello Museum of American Art, Orlando, FL (2016). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including The Sacramento Valley, San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, CA (1972); Body and Soul; Aspects of Recent Figurative Sculpture, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (1985); The Horse, American Museum of Natural History, New York, NY (2008); and Sculpture Milwaukee, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, WI (2017). Butterfield currently lives and works between Bozeman, MT and Hawaii.
