Artist Details

Biography

David Diao was born in 1943 in Chengdu, China. He received a BA in 1964 from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH and an MFA in 1965 from The Cooper Union in New York, NY. Diao has been the subject of several solo and two-person exhibitions, including at Musée d’Art Moderne, Saint-Étienne, France (1989); Asian American Arts Centre, New York, NY (2003); Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, PA (2014); and Office Baroque, Antwerp, Belgium (2020). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Young American Artists, Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, OH (1970); Art at the End of the Social, Rooseum, Malmö, Sweden (1988); Open! Kuandu Extravaganza, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, Taiwan (2005); and Coloring, University of Kentucky Art Museum, Lexington, KY (2021). Diao currently lives and works in New York, NY.
