Chema Cobo was born in 1952 in Málaga, Spain. He graduated in 1974 from Cursa estudios de Filosofía en la Universidad in Madrid, Spain. Cobo has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at Aula de Cultura, Diputación Provincial, Málaga, Spain (1984); Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY (1987); Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo, Sevilla, Spain (1998); and Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga, Màlaga, Spain (2009). Cobo has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Spanish Art from 1920 to Today, National Palace, Taipe, China (1978); Avant Garde Of the Eighties, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (1987); Double Trouble, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, CA and Museo de las Artes y Instituto Cabañas, Guadalajara, México (1998); Todas Las Revolunciones Estan Hechas, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Sevilla, Sevilla, Spain (2014); and Pongamos que hablo de Madrid, Instituto Cultural Cabañas, Guadalajara, Mexico 92017). Cobo died in 2023 in Málaga, Spain.
