Carl Chiarenza was born in 1935 in Rochester, NY. He received a BFA in 1957 from Rochester Institute of Technology, an MS in 1959 from Boston University, and a PhD in 1973 from Harvard University. Chiarenza has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at Southeast Museum of Photography, Daytona Beach, FL (1995); Center for Photographic Arts, Carmel, CA (2005); and Marks Art Center, College of the Desert, Palm Desert, CA (2011). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including La Photographie au present: l’annee 1996 dans les collections de la Bibliotheque Nationale de France, Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, France (1997); Photography in Boston: 1955-1985, DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Lincoln, MA (2000); and 6X6X2008, Rochester Contemporary Art Center, Rochester, NY (2008). Chiarenza currently lives and works in Rochester, NY.
