Artist Details


Cai Guo-Qiang was born in 1957 in Quanzhou, China. He graduated in 1985 from Shanghai Theater Academy in Shanghai, China. He has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Osaka Contemporary Art Center, Osaka, Japan (1990); Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek, Denmark (1997); Musée d’Art Contemporain de Lyon, Lyon, France; Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Ghent, Belgium (2001); Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (2008); and The National Art Center, Tokyo, Japan (2023). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including Silent Energy, Modern Art Oxford, Oxford, UK (1993); Form Follows Fiction, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Turin, Italy (2001); Blood on Paper: The Art of the Book, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK (2008); Ink Art: Past as Present in Contemporary China, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY (2013); and Before/After, Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, Hiroshima, Japan (20230. Guo-Qiang currently lives and works in New York.
