Cai Guo-Qiang was born in 1957 in Quanzhou, China. He graduated in 1985 from Shanghai Theater Academy in Shanghai, China. He has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Osaka Contemporary Art Center, Osaka, Japan (1990); Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek, Denmark (1997); Musée d’Art Contemporain de Lyon, Lyon, France; Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Ghent, Belgium (2001); Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (2008); and The National Art Center, Tokyo, Japan (2023).
