Brian House | Contemporary Arts Center

Brian House was born in 1979 in Denver, CO. He received a BA in 2002 from Columbia University, an MS in 2006 from Chalmers tekniska högskola, and PhD in 2016 from Brown University. He has been the subject of many solo and two-person exhibitions, including at Museum of Contemporary Arts, Los Angeles, CA (2009); Granoff Center for the Creative Arts, Providence, RI (2018); Brooklyn Botanic Garden, New York, NY (2021); and University of Oregon, Eugene, OR (2022). He has participated in several group exhibitions, including The Case at Kulturhuset, Stockholms Kulturhuset, Stockholm, Sweden (2004); Design and the Elastic Mind, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (2008); Buildering: Misbehaving The City, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2014); Creature: When Species Meet, Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, OH (2019); and Desbosque, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Lima, Peru (2022).

This exhibition brings together an international coterie of artists and academics that enlist this untamed, “wild” other as partners in the production of art. From Florentine architecture and Mannerist painting to Hollywood film, Japanese anime, and the impossible bodies of video game fantasy, Julien Nguyen builds hybrid histories to pose contemporary queries.
